WRPSevern Club History

Worcester has long been without any form of subbuteo/table football activity. A city wide knock out tournament in 1998, organised in aid of charity, marked the end of a once golden era for a game rappidly being replaced by computers and multi channel tv.

Then in the summer of 2005 a chance conversation between Paul Shearman and Tim Lovell reignited the dwindling flame of the once beautiful, miniature, game. Discovering they had both grown up playing and loving the table top sport, both men began to play a series of informal friendlies. Using an amalgamation of classic retro rules from the 70's and the 80's and having never heard of FISTF, these enjoyable games were the start of something far more significant.

By September of 2005 a further two players expressed interest in dusting down their teams and once again entering into the arena of miniature plastic footballers. By November of the same year a fifth player joined the ranks and official proceedings began.

As the clock struck 8pm on Thursday the 24th of November 2005 competative Table Football was reborn in Worcester, UK. Five teams began their struggle to become the first ever official champions of the WRPSevern league. Season One was not only a success in Worcester but quite literally took the world by storm.

The club's first knock out cup competition final was broadcast on the internet with little thought to any reaction it might provoke. Within hours internet table football forums were buzzing. Subbuteo had never been broadcast online before and history had quite unwittingly been made. The demand for further matches was overwhelming and most of season one was broadcast to the world. Viewers from across the globe sent messages of support to the Worcester Club and many new clubs from Greece to the USA were formed by viewers inspired by the boys in Worcester.

Worcester River Plate Severn TFC has now entered it's third official season, outgrown it's original home and moved to a sports centre to allow more players to join.

Six teams currently compete in the league and three players are England internationals.

Paul Shearman is the reigning league champion having won back to back titles.
